67th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day



Vietnam Information - Today marks the 67th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day.
67 years ago, President Ho Chi Minh read out the country’s Declaration of Independence in Hanoi’s Ba Dinh Squareon September 2, 1945, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietna
m (now Socialist Republic of Việt Nam), and announcing that Vietnam had the right to enjoy independence and freedom.

On the morning of September 2, 1945, nearly 500,000 well-dressed people converged on Ba Dinh Square, waiting for the declaration proclaiming the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. They happily packed the streets leading to Ba Dinh Square, hanging up slogans written in Vietnamese, English, French, Chinese and Russian. The slogans read: “The Vietnamese nation is for the Vietnamese”, “Independence or Death” and “Support President Ho Chi Minh”.
