The beauty of old Vietnam in precious color photos - December 2012
In 1909, he traveled to Japan with a friend who was also a photographer. They took many great photos during the trip. This had inspired Albert Kahn to make a photo collection project from all over the world. Afterwards, he sponsored many photographers to travel in all the continents for recording images of the daily life and typical culture of the countries.
Photo exhibition "Memories of Old Hanoi" - October 2010
On 7 October 2010 the photo exhibition "Memories of Old Hanoi" was opened in Hanoi Library. This was one of the activities for the celebration of the 1000th year anniversary of Hanoi which would be held on 10 October 2010. 1,820 photos in this exhibition had been collected by the father and son of a Hanoian family (teacher Đoàn Thịnh and architect Đoàn Bắc). These photos were taken in Hanoi during 1831 - 1954. They were arranged into 24 topics and 5 different parts (General view of the city, Thăng Long citadel, Hanoi under French rule, People and lives, Historical periods).

The color photos in this blog (No. 1 to No. 16) were published in Dân Trí website on 3 December 2012. They were taken during 1910 - 1930 by the photographers who were sponsored by Albert Kahn to travel to Vietnam for taking photos of the country and people. Albert Kahn (1860 – 1940) was a famous French bank owner of Jewish origin. He was well known at the time as a kind businessman who had a special passion for cultural and educational issues.

They were also the first photographers of the 20th century who approached the color photography technique thanks to sponsorship of Albert Kahn. 72,000 photos and 183,000m of films were recorded from 50 countries. A great photo book "The Archives of the Planet" made by him was the first ever color photo collection in the history of photography. This was a precious asset as B&W photos were still the main form of photo used during this time. The color photos taken by the photographers in different countries were rare images of the daily life during 1910 - 1930.
